Local Singers Perform in Honor Choir

The group was directed by St. Louis Park music teacher Deborah Lamb.

A group of 11 St. Louis Park students recently got the opportunity to sing on a big stage.

The fifth- and sixth-grade singers were part of the honor choir at the annual Midwest Kodály Music Educators of America Conference, held Oct. 21-23 in Columbus, Ohio.

In all, nearly 90 singers from across the Midwest came together to show off their talents. Leading all of them was another local— and music teacher Deborah Lamb.

"It was both an honor and a privilege to rehearse and conduct all these talented singers from around the Midwest," Lamb said in an email. "It was challenging to pull together 88 singers from many different schools to create a concert that we could all feel proud of and enjoy."

Lamb said the St. Louis Park students worked throughout the summer and met each week to rehearse and memorize their music. When they arrived in Columbus, they only had two days to rehearse with all the other students before performing on Sunday.

"(The concert) pushed us beyond our own skill level to achieve something really special as a group," Lamb said.
