Aquila Elementary Ranked Among Top Minnesota Schools for Latino Students

Aquila Elementary school ranks among the best elementary schools in Minnesota, based on scores in MinnCAN's 2013 School & District Report Cards.

St. Louis Park's Aquila Elementary School is the fifth best public school in the state of Minnesota as it relates to Latino student performance, according to a report from the Minnesota Campaign for Achievement Now (MinnCAN).

Aquila Elementary school ranks among the best elementary schools in Minnesota, based on scores in MinnCAN's 2013 School & District Report Cards. The SLP Elementary school scored a B- in student performance, B in subgroup performance and C in achievement gap. It also earned a D- in performance gains, according to the report cards.

MinnCAN ranked all 1,967 of Minnesota's public schools, assigning letter grades based on Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment results released by the Minnesota Department of Education last fall.

MinnCAN Executive Director Daniel Sellers said MinnCAN's report cards are designed to help provide educators and parents with a better understanding of which schools are excelling in terms of student learning and achievements.

“Aquila Elementary School should be on everyone’s radar for student learning," Sellers said. "We hope that the greater community can engage in conversations on why schools such as this are leading the pack so that we can better share proven strategies and best practices across all public schools."

Minnesota's top elementary school for Latino student performance is Hartley Elementary School in Waseca, followed by Eagle Heights Spanish Immersion in Eden Prairie. The top high school in Minnesota for Latino student performance is nearby Minnetonka High School, according to MinnCAN's database.
