State Senate, 5th District Races Highlight Local Primary Contests

Two Republicans are vying to take on incumbent Ron Latz in November, while Keith Ellison has two Democratic challengers.

There are no St. Louis Park city races this election season (they're held in odd years), but all three legislators who represent the Park are up this year.

One of those seats—Senate District 46—will have a primary Tuesday, as Republicans and Paul Scofield compete for the opportunity to take on Democratic incumbent in November.

Scofield has said that he is actually and would have pulled out of the race had he not missed the deadline to do so. Local Republicans are to get behind Champagne.

Legislative districts 46A and 46B will not have primaries, as only two filed in each. In 46A, Republican challenger will take on Democratic incumbent this November. 46B pits Republican challenger against Democratic incumbent .

St. Louis Park residents will also be able to vote in primaries for U.S. Senator, as well as for a Fifth District Congressman.

The congressional primary features incumbent and heavy favorite Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) as well as Gregg Iverson and Gary Boisclair. Boisclair has made waves by running as a Democrat but with a traditionally conservative platform. He has aired ads featuring .
