St. Louis Park Gets Grant For More Light Rail Planning

The Met Council will fund a study of a proposed Louisiana Avenue stop.

The Met Council is giving St. Louis Park an $80,000 grant to plan and prepare for a proposed Louisiana Avenue light rail stop.

It will be the second of three St. Louis Park stops along the proposed Southwest Light Rail Transit line to get studied. The city already received a grant to . As part of that grant, a resident advisory committee will be set up and is expected to start meeting next month.

A grant to study the final proposed St. Louis Park stop—at Wooddale Avenue—is expected to come the city's way as well.

Construction of the $1.25 billion line, which will connect the Twin Cities with Eden Prairie via the west metro, is expected to start in 2015. The transitway would then open in 2018.
