SLP Partners with SW Metro Cities to Help Military Service Members

Edina, St. Louis Park, Minnetonka and Hopkins have joined the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon program, which helps provide services and resources to veterans and military families.

St. Louis Park will celebrate its participation in the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon program on Saturday, as it joins Edina, Hopkins and Minnetonka in a partnership to help members of the Minnesota National Guard and their families.

“St. Louis Park understands the important role that community support plays in the lives of service members and their families,” said St. Louis Park city manager Tom Harmening in a statement. “Beyond the Yellow Ribbon is a great opportunity for all of our cities to join together and connect and engage with these important community members.”

The four cities have taken a regional approach to participation in the program, a strategy designed to allay local leaders' concerns that the program would be a burden for city staff.

Beyond the Yellow Ribbon has been active in the southwest metro since September 2012, with volunteers for the group undertaking projects such as helping a female veteran who had been living in her car find an apartment and moving a hospital bed from a home in Wayzata to the apartment of a veteran in St. Paul.

The proclamation ceremony and celebration will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in Hopkins Downtown Park, 40 9th Ave. S.
