(PHOTOS) Secretary of State Visits SLP High School

Mark Ritchie was on hand Friday to promote "iCivics."

Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie visited on Friday to address the importance of learning about civics.

Ritchie, along with Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Lorie Gildea, met with two groups of students, many of whom are involved with the "iCivics" program. Founded in 2009 by Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, iCivics encourages youngsters to get engaged with civics through free and innovative educational materials available online.

This was the first event to recognize the use of iCivics in Minnesota.

“I am proud to be part of a nationwide effort that is promoting iCivics,“ said Gildea in a press release, “and I am excited to hear firsthand how students have benefited from it.”

“iCivics is a great resource for students and teachers throughout Minnesota,” added Ritchie in the release.
