BSM Tops Edina, Advances to State Semis

With Jack Jablonski watching from the upper-level of the Xcel Energy Center, Christian Horn scored the biggest goal of his career.

The senior lit the lamp with 23.9 seconds left in a state tournament quarterfinal matchup with Edina, sending the Red Knights into Friday's semifinal against Lakeville South with a 3-2 win over the Hornets.

After the game, Horn gave a shoutout to Jablonski, his BSM teammate who sustained a during a game on Dec. 30.

"Jack, we love you man. Keep battling," Horn said. "This is all for you."

Horn's goal came on a breakaway after a slick deke on the Edina goaltender. It was a quick turn of events, as just a few minutes earlier, BSM was fighting off an Edina power play during a 2-2 game.

Horn finished the game with one goal and one assist. Juniors Grant Besse and Dan Labosky also scored for the Red Knights.

Junior goalie Justin Quale also came up big for the Red Knights, making a number of sprawling saves while Edina outshot BSM, 35 to 26.

BSM never trailed; Besse scored the first goal of the game three minutes into the second, which was answered later in the period by Edina's Jack Walker. Labosky's goal game came early in the second, but Connor Hurley answered 19 seconds later for the Hornets, tying the game at 2-2 and setting up the dramatic finish.

BSM's win concluded a wild day in the Class 2A tournament, as all four seeded teams—Maple Grove, Eagan, Duluth East and Edina—fell. The Red Knights will now take on Lakeville South on Friday at 8 p.m.
