Four Firkins Moves a Step Closer to New Store

The store's owner got a new liquor license on Monday.

St. Louis Park craft beer store took a step toward moving into a new storefront on Monday.

City Council approved a new liquor license for Jason Alvey, the store's owner. Alvey said his construction company wanted the new license secure before work begins to renovate his new storefront at 5630 36th St. W, which is twice as large as the store's current Minnetonka Boulevard digs. Alvey said he hopes to move into the new location by August.

Monday's liquor license approval was also a celebration of sorts, as Alvey came with a large cast of friends and family who cheered the council's unanimous vote. Council was also in a jovial mood.

"I will miss them in the Third Ward," councilwoman Sue Santa said.

"But they're closer to my house," Fourth Ward councilwoman Anne Mavity quickly responded, which drew chuckles from the crowd.

Alvey said all the support means a lot to him.

"Three years ago, you gave me the opportunity to start a business," he told council. "I was unproven. (But) The Four Firkins has succeeded beyond our wildest dreams."
