Fallen Firefighter Remembrance

You’re invited to attend a short remembrance ceremony at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, at Fire Station No. 2 honoring the lives of Assistant Fire Chief Kurt Scheibe, Arnold “Arnie” Johnson and Robert “Bob” McElmurry.

Scheibe died on the scene of a fire on Oct. 1, 1964. Johnson and McElmurry died in the burning of the Pizza House, 4532 Excelsior Blvd., on Oct. 8, 1971. The remembrance ceremony will coincide with the 40th anniversary of that day—the most tragic day in the history of the St. Louis Park Fire Department.

As the new fire stations project continues, the city is looking at ways to create a permanent memorial of some sort to these fallen men.
