Edina Joins SLP in Opposition to Marriage Ban

Edina and St. Louis Park are the first suburban cities to take this action.

St. Louis Park now has company in the west metro when it comes to cities opposing the state's .

Edina passed a resolution in opposition to the amendment on March 20. The vote was unanimous, Edina Patch .

"I think we're doing ourselves a great favor as a city to send the message out to potential businesses, potential residents that we foster a climate of tolerance," councilman Josh Sprague told Patch. "We accept you as you are in this city and we welcome you."

St. Louis Park City Council on March 5, also by a unanimous vote.

"First and foremost, it's the right thing for us to do," councilwoman Julia Ross said at that meeting.

Minneapolis, Duluth and St. Paul have also passed resolutions against the marriage amendment, which will be on the November ballot for Minnesota residents to vote on.
