District 46 Legislators Selected to Chair Legislative Committees

Sen. Ron Latz wil be chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Rep. Steve Simon will chair the House Elections Committee.

District 46 legislators will have key leadership positions on legislative committees.

Sen. Ron Latz—whose district includes Hopkins, Golden Valley and St. Louis Park—will serve as the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which considers legislation related to the judiciary, human rights, family law, civil remedies, criminal law and policy, the Senate announced Friday.

“I’m honored to have been named to head this committee,” Latz said. “I served as the DFL lead on the committee the past two years and know we have a lot of work to do to move the state forward on some very important issues.”

The Senate news release said the St. Paul Crime Lab, which has been criticized for the accuracy of its drug tests, will be one of the issues Latz focuses on during the session.

In the House, Rep. Steve Simon—who represents Hopkins and St. Louis Park—will be the chairman of the Elections Committee, the House announced. Simon was a leading opponent of the proposed voter ID amendment that failed to win approval on Election Day.
