Council Set to Approve Domestic Partner Registry

The ordinance unanimously passed a first reading earlier this month.

After an emotional meeting two weeks ago, when the St. Louis Park City Council gave to an ordinance that will allow domestic partners to register with the city, the registry program is set for final approval tonight.

The second vote is part of the usual process council follows when enacting new ordinances.

A number of St. Louis Park gay and lesbian couples came to council's Jan. 3 meeting to show support for the measure, which many see as a positive step in the movement to gain better recognition for same-sex relationships.

The final vote on this ordinance wraps up what should be a fairly quick council meeting, which was pushed back a day due to the Martin Luther King holiday. For more on the meeting, see the attached agenda. The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at . Meetings are also broadcast on civic cable channel 17 and streamed online.
