Young Man Shot in Leg in St. Louis Park

A roundup of crimes and incidents reported by the St. Louis Park Police Department Dec. 21-30.

According to a report filed by officers with the St. Louis Park Police Department, a 21-year old young man was shot in the thigh in the 7200 block of Walker Street on Dec. 23. Police are currently investigating whether or not the incident was an assault or not. No further information has been made public.

Dec. 21

A smartphone was stolen from the T-Mobile store at the Knollwood Mall.

A home in the 3400 block of Yosemite Avenue was broken into around 2:30 p.m. The victim’s brother, who lives nearby and frequently comes by to let the victim’s dog out, reported the incident. A $1,000 desktop and a $400 iPhone were stolen, but officers were able to collect a latex glove and a shoe print left by the burglars.

A Burlington Coat Factory patron told police her wallet was stolen out of her shopping car around 4 p.m. while she shopped.

Police cited a panhandler at Exit 5 on I-394 after officers warned him to cease panhandling in the area the previous week.

Dec. 22

A juvenile out after his curfew was cited for fleeing an officer on foot around 2:40 a.m.

A van parked in the 2700 block of Louisiana Court was broken into overnight. A portable table saw, three nail guns, a miter saw, and four boxes of screws taken. Police recovered the driver’s toolbox the following day.

A second van parked in the same block of Louisiana Court was broken into overnight. A tool belt, miscellaneous copper fittings, and a cordless drill were taken.

Police are investigating an afternoon residential break-in in the 2700 block of Rhode Island Avenue. Video games and cash were taken.

A patron at Westwood Liquor patron complained that a clerk at the store yelled obscenities at him when he insisted on purchasing a different brand of liquor than what the clerk had suggested. As he left, the clerk allegedly followed the customer saying “something about not being able to fight” him.

Dec. 23

A patron at SuperAmerica told police her Wells Fargo check card was stolen after she left it in the store’s ATM at 7 p.m. The thief made more than $600 in charges and withdrawals were made on the card.

Dec. 24

Burglars took cash from PetSmart around 5 a.m.

A thief stole a gym bag from a car parked overnight near the corner of France Ave and Excelsior Boulevard.

Police responded to a call of two young women fighting in the yard of an apartment building in the 8400 block of Minnetonka Boulevard at 3:45 p.m. Both were drinking at the time, witnesses said.

A 74-year old man was found dead of natural causes in the 3600 block of Park Center Boulevard around 3:45 p.m.

Several “younger males” attempted to enter a minivan parked in the 2700 block of Louisiana Court. Suspects fled on foot after smashing a window and damaging the car’s ignition.

Dec. 25

Officers responded to a complaint of “loud voices and arguing” in the 6800 block of Meadowbrook Boulevard. When police arrived, the voices in question were quiet and “it appeared to be a nice Christmas celebration.” The accused residents denied any arguing had been taking place and said they were simply watching basketball on television.

Police responded to a report of brawling in the Lenox neighborhood.

A minivan parked in the 2700 block of Rhode Island Avenue was broken into between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. The window and doorframe were damaged and the car’s ignition had been removed.

Dec. 26

A 79-year old man was found dead of natural causes around 8 a.m. in the 3100 block of Idaho Ave.

A St. Louis Park resident reported his storage locker at Simply Storage had been broken into. Nothing appeared to be missing.

 Dec. 27

A drunken patron attacked a bouncer at Toby Keith’s Bar after being denied admittance.

Dec. 29

A man claimed to have been robbed at gunpoint by a gang of five other men around 10 a.m. in the 8200 block of Minnetonka Boulevard. However, the victim would not cooperate with investigators and would not identify himself.

Dec. 30

Police are investigating a robbery reported in the 4700 block of Excelsior Boulevard around 10 p.m.

A 35-year old man was found dead from self-inflicted gunshot wounds in the 2600 block of Georgia Avenue at 11:20 p.m.
