Blotter: Odd Call, Then a Garage Break-in

St. Louis Park police also responded to damage and theft in an apartment laundry room.

Editor's Note: The following incidents occurred between May 4 and May 9, and were included in the  most recent weekly report, sent out on May 16. Specific details come from individual incident reports maintained by the department.

May 4 - A 75-year-old woman reported that her garage in the 4600 block of Cedar Lake Road was broken into and several CDs, a flashlight and her handicap parking sign stolen from her vehicle. She said about a week earlier, she received a call in which a man said, "The FBI has informed us there have been a lot of robberies in your area. Press '1' for more info." The woman pressed '1' and a man described a security system, then asked for her address. When the woman asked him for a price, the man hung up. It is unclear if this call and the burglary are related. No suspects have been identified.

May 4 - A 26-year-old woman told police that her laptop was stolen from her apartment in the 2700 block of Louisiana Court overnight. The woman said she had just moved in, and she was sure she had locked the doors and window. Police found no signs of forced entry. No suspects have been identified.

May 4 -  Police responded to parking lot after a  employee said a car being stored there had been damaged. All four wheels were stolen, and significant damage was done to the car—to the tune of $4,500, the employee estimated. No suspects have been identified.

May 7 - Police were called to an apartment in the 2700 block of Rhode Island Avenue south after staff there reported damage and theft in the building's laundry room. Change trays had been ripped out of the machines and about $100 in change stolen. A camera and security system were also trashed. The total damage was estimated around $1,200. No suspects have been identified.

May 8 - A 69-year-old woman reported that her credit card had been stolen and used for an unauthorized $1,900 transaction. The woman had been at from April 3-6, and she said she had the card then. She was transferred to Westwood Healthcare, 7200 West 22nd Street, afterward, and she said she thinks the theft occurred sometime around this time. No suspects have been identified.

May 8 - More than $1,000 in golf equipment was reported stolen from a car outside a home in 7700 block of North Street. A 68-year-old man noticed his trunk ajar in the morning, and said his bag, cart and clubs had been taken. No suspects have been identified.

May 9 - An employee at  reported that a $1,000 camera lens was stolen from the business. The lens had been in a studio that was open to all employees and not secured. No suspects have been identified.
