Police Say SLP Man Was Expecting 15 Pounds of Marijuana

Authorities say Bradley James Nelson picked up a dummy package, after the Department of Homeland Security in Farmington picked up the real one.

A St. Louis Park man has been charged with felony drug possession after federal officials intercepted a package containing 15 pounds of marijuana addressed to him.

Bradley James Nelson, 39, is charged with fifth-degree drug possession, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, an agent with the Dakota County Drug Task Force received a package containing about 15 pounds of marijuana on April 4 from U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The package was addressed to Nelson.

One of the 15 bags was tested and was found to contain slightly more than a pound of marijuana.

Four of the bags containing marijuana were replaced in the shipping crate and held by the shipping agency until Nelson arrived at the shipping center in Farmington to pick it up, according to the complaint.

Nelson put the crate into the bed of the truck he was driving, left the shipping center and returned to his home in St. Louis Park.

Nelson was subsequently arrested and admitted to authorities that he picked up the crate, and he knew it contained marijuana, according to the complaint.

Nelson is free on bond. Information on upcoming court appearances was unavailable.
