SLP Woman Says Estranged Mother Opened a $30k Fraudulent Loan in Her Name

The woman was surprised when Wells Fargo asked her to pay up $35,000 for the loan plus interest.

A 25-year-old St. Louis Park woman told police that her estranged mother took out a $30,000 student loan in 2009 using her identifying information.

She said that Wells Fargo recently contacted her to collect on the loan, which has grown to $35,000 with interest.

She had never taken out any student loans and was puzzled until she learned that her mother, who she has not spoken to since 2009, co-signed the loan.
