SLP Woman Accused of Punching Friend Over $40 Debt

The friend had tried to hand her the money, but it dropped to the ground.

A St. Louis Park woman is accused of punching a friend in the face over a $40 debt.

Mardi Rae Gardner, 18, is charged with two counts of misdemeanor fifth-degree assault and one count of disorderly conduct for the Sept. 19 incident.

Gardner approached her friend near her home, on the 3400 block of Quebec Avenue, according to the criminal complaint.

Gardner told her friend she wanted the $40 she had previously lent her.

The friend said she handed Gardner the money, but it fell on the ground.

Gardner then punched her friend in the face, her friend told police. A neighbor also saw Gardner punch her friend.

When police arrived, blood was trickling from the friend’s nose.

Gardner faces up to 90 days behind bars.
