SLP Man Charged in Peeping Tom Case

Prosecutors say Troy Howard Sonksen was looking into the windows of apartment buildings in Bloomington.

On Tuesday, prosecutors charged a St. Louis Park man with privacy violations for allegedly peeking into several occupied apartments in Bloomington over the weekend.

Troy Howard Sonksen faces one charge of Felony Interference with Privacy, which carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, Bloomington Police arrested Sonksen as they responded to a 911 call from an apartment complex in that city. The caller said a man matching Sonksen's description had been looking into several windows in the complex.

The criminal complaint continues, saying the 911 caller saw Sonksen as they returned to their own apartment around 9:30 p.m. on Mar. 3. He went up to a first-floor apartment whose windows appeared dark and began peeping in the windows, the caller said. Sonksen allegedly went to another window and repeated the same process, looking for as long as 10 seconds. While police were on their way, the caller said, Sonksen tried to open a security door at another building in the complex.

Sonksen has four prior convictions for Interference with Privacy on his criminal record—a felony conviction in Hennepin County from 2007, two misdemeanor convictions in Scott County from 1999, and a gross misdemeanor conviction in Ramsey County from Jan. 2012, where he was sentenced to a short prison term and two years of probation.
