SLP Police Shoot Sick Coyote Near Home With Young Children

The coyote had been laying in the yard of an Ottawa Avenue home. The homeowner was concerned the children would approach the animal.

St. Louis Park police shot and killed a young, sick coyote that had stationed itself in the yard of a home on the 2700 block of Ottawa Avenue.

The homeowner called police on Aug. 12 out of fear that the young children playing in the yard would confront the coyote and prompt it to bite them.

The coyote appeared to be very sick and unafraid of people, according to the police report.

When police arrived at the home, the coyote had moved to the nearby woods and laid down. The police officer approached the animal to within five feet before shooting it twice.

The coyote was placed in a plastic bag and stored in a freezer at police headquarters.
