Man Shoots, Kills Estranged Wife in St. Louis Park

Police say the man then shot and killed himself in Minneapolis.

A man shot and killed his estranged wife Monday night outside a St. Louis Park office building, then later shot and killed himself, according to police.

Neither person has been publicly identified, pending release by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office. 

The first shooting happened around 8 p.m. in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Highway 100, across the street from . The man reportedly shot the woman multiple times after an argument, said Jamie Zwilling, St. Louis Park police spokesman.

After leaving the scene, the man made his way into Minneapolis and the intersection of East 37th Street and Hiawatha Avenue, where police found him dead of what they believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

No other suspects are being sought at this time.

Ben Verhasselt, a 17-year-old senior at , said he was studying with a friend at a nearby when he saw a number of squad cars fly by. He then went over to the scene, where he said he saw a K-9 unit and a helicopter searching the area.

"Right off the bat, we knew it was something serious," he said. "It's definitely out of the ordinary ... It's super scary."

The last reported homicide in St. Louis Park was in November, when a man at the off Highway 7.
