Paul Barnes Honored as SLP Officer of the Year

Barnes has started and administered a youth basketball summer program, shadowed leaders of other city departments and held a variety of roles including hostage negotiator.

Paul Barnes, a 12-year veteran of the St. Louis Park Police Department, has been named officer of the year.

Barnes has started and administered a youth basketball summer program, shadowed leaders of other city departments and held a variety of roles including hostage negotiator.

“Paul has such a great attitude and does all that is expected of him and so much more,” Chief John Luse said in a statement. “He goes the extra mile in many ways and sees the importance of teamwork in delivering the best possible service to our community every day.”

Barnes, who has been mentoring new officers since 2011, said he was humbled to receive the honor.

“There is not a more meaningful compliment than to be recognized by your peers," he said. "I am grateful to work with an excellent group of professional and dedicated officers and staff.”
