Man Responsible for 6-Hour Standoff Allegedly Told Officers 'He Had Nothing to Live For'

Brenden Robert Kreb faces one count of disorderly conduct for being offensive, abusive, noisy or obscene and one count of obstructing the legal process by interfering with a peace officer.

The 28-year-old St. Louis Park man responsible for engaging area police departments in a six-hour standoff this weekend is being charged with a pair of misdemeanors, according to a criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County.

Brenden Robert Kreb faces one count of disorderly conduct for being offensive, abusive, noisy or obscene and one count of obstructing the legal process by interfering with a peace officer. Both charges carry a penalty of up to 90 days in jail and up to a $1,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, St. Louis Park Police were initially called to the 3100 block of Nevada Avenue on June 9 for a welfare check. Officers spoke with the reporting party, who said he heard a female neighbor verbally ask someone to call police.

Officers located the woman and her juvenile daughter, who reported that nothing physical happened between her and Kreb. She reportedly told police Kreb had simply ripped her purse.

When police spoke with Kreb, he allegedly told them he and the woman had been arguing earlier in the night and she began "punching and slapping him" in the arms. After observing a bruise and small cut consistent with his allegations, police issued citations to both Kreb and the woman, then told her she should leave the area for the evening.

Kreb reportedly became upset, then demanded to have the woman's keys so she and her daughter could not leave. When they left the residence, police said Kreb became red in the face, clenched his fists and started rocking back and forth. He then swore at officers and slammed the door in their faces as they left the scene.

Minutes later, officers were again dispatched to the residence on a report of Kreb yelling at and berating his neighbors. The caller said he and Kreb eventually got nose-to-nose, with Kreb allegedly yelling at him and accusing him of taking his child away. The man said Kreb's eyes were bloodshot, his actions were erratic and he appeared to be under the influence of drugs, according to the criminal complaint.

Officers spoke with Kreb over the phone, at which point he refused to leave the building. For more than six hours, the complaint says Kreb refused to come out of his home, shouted obscenities at officers and "stated that officers would have to come inside and shoot him because he had nothing to live for."

Police were eventually able to get Kreb out of the home and transported him to Methodist Hospital, where he reportedly stated that his back hurt. He's currently in custody at the Hennepin County Jail, with a $3,000 bond.
