Man Found Dead In Car Pulled From Burning York Avenue Apartment Garage

Edina and St. Louis Park firefighters responded to a call around 4 p.m. Monday afternoon.

A man was found dead in a car pulled from the smoke and flames of an Edina apartment complex’s detached garage, the city’s fire department said Tuesday.

Passersby called the fire department around 4 p.m. Monday to report the blaze at 6315 York Avenue.

After crews from Edina, St. Louis Park, Richfield and Bloomington worked together to extinguish the fire, they towed the car from the garage and found a body in the front seat.

Authorities have not yet released the man’s name or determined the cause of the fire. The Hennepin Medical Examiner has taken custody of the body and the state fire marshal is investigating.

“The one [garage] unit was badly burned from floor to ceiling up to the roof,” Edina Fire Department spokesman Jordan Gilgenbach said.
