Local Man Charged for String of Burglaries

A St. Louis Park man has been charged for a string of local burglaries in October and November.

Daniel Tadle Kassa, 20, was charged Thursday in Hennepin County court with two counts of second-degree robbery and single counts of first-degree and third-degree robbery, all of which are felonies.

Kassa is currently in custody on $80,000 bail and scheduled for a court appearance this morning.

According to a criminal complaint, maintenance workers at , where Kassa lives, found what they believed to be stolen property on Tuesday in an apartment locker that was supposed to be empty. They also found Kassa's ID in the locker, as well as a number of personal hygiene products, suggesting that he was living inside.

Kassa was arrested, and he told police of at least three specific places he could remember burglarizing, the complaint states.

The first was a home in the 2600 block of Florida Avenue on Oct. 18. Kassa said he recalled stealing a purse, a laptop and a gaming system after breaking a window to get inside. He said he fled when he heard someone coming down the stairs.

The next incident occurred on Nov. 7 at a residence in the 6900 block of Meadowbrook Boulevard, Kassa said. He told police that he recalled taking a flat screen TV and two gaming systems. The complaint states that he entered by prying a screen of off a bedroom window.

The final incident occurred on Nov. 13 at a residence in the 3100 block of Rhode Island Avenue, the complaint states. Two laptops were stolen after Kassa allegedly broke through a large window in the back of the house.

In all, officers were able to recover several apparently stolen items from the locker, valued at more than $1,000. However, Kassa told police that he had sold the TV and given away one of the gaming systems.
