Man Charged With Spitting in SLP Cop's Left Eye, Threatening to Kill Him

The man faces up to three years behind bars.

An Edina man is accused of spitting in a St. Louis Park police officer’s left eye.

Daniel Paul Lorenz, 32, is charged with one count of felony assault in the Dec. 5 incident.

Methodist Hospital staff called police at 7:43 p.m. for assistance escorting Lorenz, a suicidal patient, into the building.

When police attempted to detain Lorenz, he became combative and pulled away from the officers, according to the criminal complaint.

Police handcuffed Lorenz and brought him into the emergency room as he yelled obscenities and threatened to kill an officer who was holding him.

Lorenz then spit in an officer’s face and left eye.

He is in custody and faces up to three years behind bars.
