Blotter: St. Louis Park Police Deal With More Spring Thefts

Police say theft can rise when the weather warms, and recent incidents are proving that.

The following incidents occurred between April 9 and April 14, and were included in the St. Louis Park Police Department's most recent weekly report, sent out on April 20. Specific details come from individual incident reports maintained by the department.

April 9- Police responded to Dream Maker Kitchen and Bath, located at 6801 Wayzata Boulevard, on a report of vandalized vehicles. The business’ owner said four catalytic converters had been cut off and stolen from several company vehicles parked in a back parking lot. This is the second time in six months that such a theft has occurred. The converters are valued at $2,000 collectively. No suspects have been identified.

April 10- Officers were called to the 2700 block of Xenwood Avenue South on a report of a laptop being stolen from a vehicle. The vehicle was reportedly left unlocked in a driveway. The computer is valued at $1,500. No suspects have been identified.

April 10- A maintenance worker at a local apartment reported that his tools had been stolen. The worker, who does work at a residence in the 300 block of Shelard Parkway, said the tools were taken from the bed of his truck, which was parked in an underground garage. There is no surveillance footage of the theft, and no suspects have been identified. The various tools are valued at $2,000.

April 11- A 27-year-old man said he saw an in-progress theft from his office in the 5700 block of Wayzata Boulevard. The man said he was looking out a ninth floor window when he saw a maroon car pull up to another vehicle. He said an indistinguishable subject got out, smashed the other vehicle’s window and took a briefcase. The maroon vehicle then sped away. No suspects have been identified.

April 13- The owner of said a man might have stolen several grills from the company. The owner said the 30-year-old man rented the grills on March 31 and was supposed to return them on April 4. Police advised the owner to send a demand notice to the renter before pursuing further police action. The grills are valued at $1,800 collectively.

April 13- A motorcycle was reportedly stolen in the 3100 block of Florida Avenue South overnight. The owner, a 36-year-old male, said the keys were inside with him at the time. The motorcycle is valued at $1,500. No suspects have been identified.

April 14- Police were called to on a burglary report. The 59-year-old owner said someone had forced his or her way in and stolen $2,300 cash from a drawer. The owner said this was the third time his business had been broken into, and that he had put the cash in the drawer to hopefully hide it. In addition to the missing cash, $1,000 in damage was reported to a door and frame. No suspects have been identified.
