Blotter: Police Respond to Thefts From Homes, Yards and Cars

In one incident, a $70,000 construction vehicle was stolen from a work site.

Editor's Note: The following incidents occurred between Nov. 4 and Nov. 10, and were included in the most recent weekly report, sent out on Nov. 16. Specific details come from individual incident reports maintained by the department.

Nov. 4 - Police responded to the after a 23-year-old tenant said she came home to find her unit burglarized. A window screen appeared to have been propped open. Stolen were a $1,000 laptop and a $50 microwave. No suspects have been identified.

Nov. 5 - A 57-year-old woman told police that her vehicle had been broken into while she was parked at . Her purse had been stolen, along with the $500 inside it. A front desk employee said two individuals who smelled of marijuana had entered and exited the gym three times before the theft, though they weren't seen in or near the car. No other suspects have been identified.

Nov. 7 - A homemade, metal yard ornament was stolen from a yard in the 2600 block of Vernon Avenue. No suspects have been identified.

Nov. 7 - A burglary was reported at a residence in the 6900 block of Meadowbrook Boulevard. A 40-year-old resident said she arrived home from work to find the screen pried off her bedroom window, which is likely where an unknown suspect or suspects entered. Stolen was a 50-inch TV, valued at $2,000, along with three video game systems. Nearby residents said they didn't see or hear anything. No suspects have been identified.

Nov. 8 - A $70,000 Caterpillar Skid Steer was reported stolen from a construction site at 3601 Wooddale Avenue. Workers found a padlock cut off from a fence that went around the construction vehicle. Nearby businesses do not have any surveillance footage of the scene. No suspects have been identified.

Nov. 9 - A 24-year-old employee at said his car was broken into while he was at work. Stolen was $1,500 laptop that belongs to his school, Dunwoody Institute, as well as several textbooks. No suspects have been identified.

Nov. 10 - Police were called to an apartment in the 3500 block of Aquila Circle after the caretaker saw three boys trying to break into a unit. The man said when the boys saw him, they took off and ran. He wasn't able to determine their age or race. Police noticed that the screen on the apartment's window had been cut, but it did not appear as if the boys had made it inside before they fled. The tenant wasn't home at the time.
