Blotter: Car Drilled, Copper Stripped and Stolen

Police also responded to a car break-in at a St. Louis Park apartment.

Editor's Note: The following incidents occurred between Jan. 5 and Jan. 20, and were included in the most recent weekly report, sent out on Jan. 25. Specific details come from individual incident reports maintained by the department.

Jan. 5 – Police were called to after an employee found that someone had drilled a hole into a vehicle, causing gas to spill out. The damage was reported at $1,500. No suspects have been identified.

Jan. 11 – Police were called to a home in the 1800 block of Nevada Avenue after a 33-year-old woman reported that her engagement ring might have been stolen. She said she first noticed that the ring was missing on Dec. 28. She said some friends had been over for the holidays, but she couldn’t think of anyone who would take the ring, valued at $2,000. The woman said $100 in cash was also missing.

Jan. 13 – Officers responded to an underground garage at an apartment in the 300 block of Shelard Parkway after a 26-year-old man said his car had been broken into. He said an in-dash navigation system and DVD player, valued at $2,200, had been stolen. A $1,300 speaker was also stolen. A video camera near the car apparently was turned away before the crime. The unknown suspect or suspects also seemingly stole all the property by smashing out windows and not opening any car doors, which kept an alarm from sounding.

Jan. 15 – A 23-year-old woman told police that someone had pried open the living room window in her apartment and entered the residence, located in the 8400 block of Minnetonka Boulevard. She said her TV and cable box had been unplugged, but nothing else was disturbed and nothing was reported missing. No suspects have been identified.

Jan. 17 – Police were dispatched to after a 61-year-old man said $3,400 was stolen from his running and unlocked vehicle. An employee said he saw a shorter, black male run away from the vehicle with several bags in his hands, then enter a lighter-colored, foor-door Buick. The employee did not see the man’s face, or the vehicle’s license plate number.

Jan. 20 – Roughly $30,000 in copper wire was reported stripped and stolen from light poles surrounding the lot. An employee was first notified that the lights weren’t working on Jan. 17, which prompted a call to an electrician. It was discovered that 17 poles had been stripped and another 33 damaged. No suspects have been identified.
