Jack Jablonski Bike Riding Fundraiser Planned

"Ride for a Reason" will raise money for the Benilde-St. Margaret's hockey player who sustained a serious spinal injury last year.

A local cycling enthusiast is combining his passion for bike riding with fundraising for Jack Jablonski.

Bob McEnaney, founder of Total Cycling Performance, is launching a new fundraising initiative: "Ride for a Reason." The organization is set to promote fun and healthy activities that foster individual health and recreation, while raising both funds and awareness for a variety of local charities—with the Jack Jablonski Fund being the first.

“The new program will combine exciting cycling and running events with an opportunity to give back to the community,” McEnaney said in a press release. “We are partnering with local businesses, charities, as well as world-class and everyday athletes alike to not only share the passion for what we love, but to make a difference.”

The inaugural "Ride for a Reason" campaign will culminate in McEnaney's participation in the Furnace Creek 508 Bicycle Race on October 6-8. Known as “the Toughest 48 hours in Sport,” the event is the world’s premier ultra cycling race. Participants cover 508 miles in 48 hours through mountains, desert and an elevation gain of more than 35,000 feet. The race stretches from Santa Clarita, CA, across the Mojave Desert, through Death Valley National Park and Mojave National Preserve, to the finish line at the gateway to Joshua Tree National Park in Twentynine Palms, CA.

McEnaney will ride the race in honor of Jablonski. Net proceeds raised by "Ride for a Reason" will benefit The Jack Jablonski Fund and research for a cure to spinal cord injuries.

McEnaney and Jack's dad, Mike Jablonski, are former 3M co-workers, which spurred the idea of riding for Jack.
