Karen Waters to run for SLP School Board

Karen Waters, a 20 plus year resident and public education and community volunteer, has announced her candidacy for the upcoming ISD 283 School Board Election.

“I believe that strong public schools enhance the lives of our families and in turn support our dynamic, unique community,” said Waters.  “I am a parent of four children attending SLP Public schools, and an active volunteer in our classrooms as well as an advocate for children through Children First and Parents United for Public Education.  These experiences all help me understand the challenges and needs facing our district,” she added.

Waters has extensive experience serving as a volunteer supporting St. Louis Park students and schools, most recently as a board member of the Susan Lindgren PTSO, Picture Person lecturer at SLP Middle School and at SLP SH supporting various programs including Theatre, Choir, Soccer and Nordic Skiing.  She also served as the chair of the Peter Hobart K-3 Site Council.

“I will work with parents, teachers, community members, students and the administration to ensure that we keep our promise to ensure multiple pathways of success for all of our learners:  birth to 109,” said Waters.  “The future of our community relies on our ability to educate our students for college and career readiness,” she added.
