SLP Baseball Starts Homestand with Huge Win to Push mark to 5-2

Orioles Plate 24 to Start 8 Game Home Stretch!

While snow and terrible field conditions have hindered all St. Louis Park spring sport seasons the baseball team led by head coach Jim Nunn is finally getting outside, and began a long home stretch today with a 24 -0 shellacking of Columbia Heights. The Orioles are 5-2 so far and play home games Wednesday at 4:15 vs North Branch, Thursday at 7pm vs. Totino Grace, Friday at 4:15 vs Chisago Lakes, and a 11am matinee vs Armstrong on Saturday. All games are FREE and at Derrick Keller Field at Dakota Park on 26th and Dakota. Sophomore Right-handed Kenny Furuli earned his second victory of the season with a one-hit, 5 k effort over three innings and Curt Greenbush struck out all three Hylander hitters in the fourth before Parker Stennes clamped down in the fifth in his first-ever appearance on the mound. Furuli also tamed Mpls. South last week in his varsity debut with impeccable control. A 4-1 Orioles victory was the result. The Orioles exploded for 14 runs in the third on numerous hits from Joey Jaramillo, Joe Burnley, Stennes, Martin Schlegel-Weiner, a laser by Jordan Fracassi and a safety from Furuli and catcher Kyle Nordstrom. On Monday the Orioles took the show on the road to Fridley and pounded out a 14-3 victory. Austin Broz picked up his second win of the season with masterful control of the strike zone and helped his own cause at the plate with a pair of safeties and walks from his lead off position. The Orioles jumped out go a 5-1 lead through five innings on a pair of massive doubles by Stennes and a pair of knocks from Cole Hoyt and two hits and a bases-clearing double by Ryan Froom. Curt Greenbush launched a long double to right and sophomores Burnley and Jaramillo chipped in. Mitch Thomas was a force behind the plate and at the bat.
