School Board Vote Signals Commitment to Community

St. Louis Park School Board affirms commitment to athletic programs with field turf vote.

The St. Louis Park School Board's gets my sincere approval.

As St. Louis Park continues to excel academically and make gains with its extracurricular offerings,  this commitment to fully utilize the field will help all sports teams at the high school and youth teams in the city who need more fields for soccer, football, and other games and practices. Potentially, weekend lacrosse and soccer tournaments might be expanded at the facility to bring in more revenue to offset the $6 per year tax on houses.

Knowing current and future athletes have a state-of-the-art weight room, plenty of gym space, and a year round field for next year is exciting for athletic director Andy Ewald and the soccer, football, lacrosse and track and field programs. It sends a message to parents of athletes that the school is on equal footings as nearly all other suburban districts.

The city recently from Hennepin County's taxing authority and its ballpark bill to go towards the rebuilding of a three-field baseball/softball complex at northside that replaced and better uses space.

I hope the city/school board partnership will look in the future at upgrading historic —the city's showcase baseball field—to make it bigger and allow for our varsity and JV teams to play in a improved facility. I grew up at Carlson and over the last 50 years it has been a marvelous stage for amateur baseball.
