Long-time Manager Wins 5th Consecutive State Title

St. Louis Park boys hockey manager Jake Fobbe and his team won another state Special Olympics floor hockey championship on Sunday.

If you've attended a boys hockey practice or game over the last 11 years, there has been one constant sight. has served as one of the team's managers since his senior year of high school in 2002-03 and continues to help the Orioles program. He loves the game of hockey and is a great player in his own right.

Sunday afternoon in Golden Valley, Fobbe and his floor hockey team called the OMG Storm won their fifth consecutive state Special Olympics championship.

Fobbe anchored the defense as he has over the last five seasons and recorded two shots on net, nearly scoring a goal. His teammates broke open a scoreless tie in the third period with four goals to give the Storm a 4-1 win.

Fobbe's father, Dan, has served as the team's coach over the years and was a little nervous as the game remained scoreless.

Jake was the manager during the last Park state tourney appearance in 2003 and worked under , Paul Olson and Donnie Williams, and was very happy to continue in his role with taking over as head coach this year. His commitment to managing is fantastic, as he walks eight to nine blocks home after nearly every practice or game regardless of the weather. He is at the rink to help with jerseys, water bottles, and any errands or needs the players or coaches have.  He manages this year's team with Paige Nagel (fourth year) and Julia Rose (third year).
