How will Gregg involve you in Decisions?

I believe Ward 3 deserves a Councilmember who is engaged as an active listener, who is available to you and our neighbors, who is willing to learn, adapt and be flexible with the ever-changing needs we all have as members of this community.  To me, this requires more than the basics – prompt responses to phone and email messages and appearances at public meetings – to which I will pay diligent attention.

Truly involving first requires that you trust me to best represent your interests.  This type of trust is built by listening to you – and acting on what I hear.  When I say I will listen, it does not mean that I will passively hear what you have to say.  It means that I will work hard to build forums by which you have a voice.

I plan to continue my work in engaging Ward 3 through organized neighborhood groups.  We have a unique common bond in the Park through our neighborhoods.  I will establish regular contact with these groups – offering neighborhood forums to hear your thoughts on current issues and more importantly, work together to generate new ideas.  I plan to also continue this work in apartment complexes and senior living facilities – making sure that diverse groups of people have equal access to their City Government.

But let’s face it, some of us do not have the time or are uncomfortable in these types of settings.  To this end, I will continue what I have found to be effective and interactive communication tools throughout my campaigning – including social media and local blogging.

In practice, I believe that public policy decisions should be made with the greater good in mind.  To this end, I have been impressed with City Staff and their efforts to build strong information about the thoughts, opinions, and beliefs of our community.  It is from this information that ideas in St Louis Park are usually born.  Building on this, I will advocate for the Council to continue to build this level of engagement throughout critical decision making processes.  For example, if recent survey results suggest that residents desire a certain amenity, I will advocate for forums by which you are engaged and heard before decisions are made – focused on creating win-win results and avoiding the harm that comes with residents feeling as though they did not have a voice in a local issue.
