From our Conversations…Stop the Reroute

The current Gregg for City Council Blog series is focused on the conversations I have had with many of you – highlighting the issues I have heard most frequently in my conversations – be it at the front door of a SLP home, at a community meeting, or in the grocery store.

Today, let’s focus on the freight reroute.

I have been clear about my views of the potential freight rail reroute through St. Louis Park – it is a dangerous, divisive and ugly plan that will jeopardize the vibrant community and quality of life we enjoy in St Louis Park.  Residential property value and business opportunity will be diminished.  Our children’s learning will suffer as the School District faces the challenges of freight traffic so close to our school buildings.  Simply, freight reroute is bad for the Park.

Based on the facts, St Louis Park should prevail in stopping the freight reroute.  The problem is, sometimes politics gets in the way of common sense.  I will work hard to represent your interests by speaking on behalf of what is best for the vitality of St Louis Park – engaging with but never putting politics in front of what matters most to the successful future of our community.
