Minnehaha Creek Clean Up

Volunteers are being recruited from across the Twin Cities to clean up Minnehaha Creek this summer.  On July 10th, the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District is teaming up with the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company to host the 5thannual Minnehaha Creek Clean-up at Lake Hiawatha in Minneapolis.  The goal this year is to collect 4,000 pounds of trash (that’s 2 tons!), double the amount that was hauled away during last year’s event, which attracted more than 600 volunteers.

The clean-up will begin at 9:00 am with a free bagel breakfast for the first 250 volunteers.  After breakfast, the volunteers can take buses to different locations along the creek to collect trash.  At 12:00 noon, they’ll return to Lake Hiawatha where the garbage will be “weigh’d” and volunteers will be treated to a barbeque picnic provided by Leinenkugel’s.

This is a family-friendly event with plenty of prizes for the kids, including an award for the most candy wrappers collected! There are prizes for the adults too, including a Leinenkugel’s canoe.  Ryan from the KS95 morning show will be on hand to entertain the crowd.

The event is located at Lake Hiawatha where it meets with Minnehaha Creek in Minneapolis (46thStreet and 28th Avenue).  The event is free and open to everyone.  Leinenkugel’s beer will be served to those 21 and older with a valid ID.

RSVP is required.  For more information, visit www.MinnehahaCreek.org andwww.LiveGreenTwinCities.com
