"Health Reform in Minnesota:  How’s it going?"


Are you wondering how health reform is going?  What’s up with the Affordable Care Act (ACA)?  There’s lots of news about the health insurance exchange – what exactly is it and what will it do?  Will my health insurance coverage change with the start of the ACA?  What is the impact on Medicare?  Does this mean everyone in my family and all my friends will now have health insurance that covers preventive care as well as medical care?

Speaker:  Ellen Benavides, Assistant Commissioner for the Policy, Quality and Compliance Bureau. This bureau includes the Compliance Monitoring Division and the Health Policy Division.  Benavides joined the health department from a career as an independent planning and policy consultant for nonprofit organizations and producer of documentary films.


Ellen Benavides previously served as director of Health Policy for Hennepin County. In that position she was responsible for developing the county’s health policy agenda and for designing and executing county-based health reform efforts to improve health care access for the uninsured.
