St. Louis Park Election Judges Attribute 'Pretty Nice' Turnout to Referenda

St. Louis Park residents voted Tuesday on four city council races, a school board election and three school levies.

The election judges at Beth El Synagogue say they're proud that St. Louis Park's first precinct has one of the highest voter turnout rates in the state.

By 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, 261 voters had cast their ballots at the synagogue.

"We're a little over 10 percent so far, according to pre-registered votes," Mary Enz, the precinct's head judge, said Tuesday afternoon. "We think that's pretty nice."

Enz said she thought the school referenda were bringing people in to vote.

Jerel Shapiro said he voted for all three referenda.

"St. Louis Park has always supported the school system, so I wouldn't want this to be the first time we let them down," he said.

Steve Hunegs, whose daughter is a junior at the high school, said he also was supporting the levies.

"It's a strong St. Louis Park tradition to support quality educational institutions," he said.
