Week in Review: June 19-26

It was a big week in news, from the city's anual celebration to the murder trial of one of its own.

Every Sunday, St. Louis Park Patch will review the week that was by highlighting five stories that had the community talking.

 

1) On Monday, Michael Swanson had his first day in court in a trial that was expected to be The St Louis Park Teen was with murdering an Iowa gas station clerk last November as he attempted to rob the store. After hearing tearful testimony from many, the jury him on Friday. He is likely to be sentenced to life in prison. Swanson is also charged with another similar murder at another Iowa gas station, and for which he will be tried next month.

2) On Saturday, St Louis Park held its anual "Parktacular" and festival. Patch staff and writers we cover as we marched in the Parade.

3) Local , schools, and social service braced for a possible government shutdown. If legislators are unable to reach a deal by June 30, the upcoming city council election .

4) Meanwhile, Newsweek ranked St Louis Park High School as in the nation.

5) While the weather stubbornly refused to give us summery weather, the city met its to re-open the water park on Friday.
