VIDEO: St. Louis Park Resident Spots Coyote Roaming in Backyard

The DNR has reported an increasing number of coyotes in the Twin Cities.

There are an increasing number of coyotes in the Twin Cities and they're generally becoming more accustomed to humans—that's the message from the state's Department of Natural Resources, and this message is visibly evident in videos shot by a Patch reader.

Tom Coppo, who lives in the 2100 block of Glenhurst Road, shot the videos of a coyote pacing around his backyard on Saturday morning, not long after his kids had come inside due to the rain.

In mid-March, a coyote right outside of a man's home in St. Louis Park. Other similar attacks have also been reported in recent weeks and months, prompting the DNR to release a list of tips for people concerned about the presence of coyotes. Recommendations include securing garbage containers, supervising pets when they’re outside and harassing coyotes when they're around.

The city of St. Louis Park is also trying to raise awareness about the animals. To date, no plans have been announced to trap and kill coyotes locally, though the option does exist—coyotes are not protected by the DNR.
