Two Great Stops Along the Mississippi

Check out Lark Toys and the National Eagle Center in one trip not far from the Twin Cities.

What kid doesn’t love toys and wildlife?

A great place to take kids, especially that of grade school age and younger, is Lark Toys in Kellogg, Minn., and the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, Minn. Located along the Mississippi River between Red Wing and Winona, it is a trip of less than two hours from the Twin Cities.

Lark Toys has toys galore, including a number of hand-carved wooden and collectibles. It also has a carousel, bookstore, miniature golf and a fudge store.

The National Eagle Center in nearby Wabasha is devoted to conservation, research and education. The center is home to several eagles that are tethered, and thus can be observed close up by visitors. You can even have your picture taken with an eagle. All the eagles live there permanently, as they do not fly because of previous injuries. All this is housed in a modern, 14,000-square-foot interpretative center.

Information on Lark Toys is available by visiting www.larktoys.com and the National Eagle Center is at www.nationaleaglecenter.org.
