FEMA Denies Tornado Assistance to Individuals

On June 13, the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) denied Gov. Dayton's request for federal assistance to individuals to cover uninsured losses and other costs from .

Dayton had asked FEMA in a May 27 letter for , including assistance for individuals in Hennepin County—which is what FEMA turned down this week.

President Barack Obama declared a June 7, freeing federal funds for assistance and granting aid to cover 75 percent of tornado-related costs borne by local governments and nonprofits in Hennepin and Anoka counties.

FEMA will host two briefings on that public assistance on Thursday. Both are in Fridley but are intended for local government officials and not the general public. For Anoka County, the briefing is at Fridley City Hall; for Hennepin County, the meeting is at the City of Minneapolis' Emergency Operations Training Facility in Fridley's far southwest corner.
