Damage Estimate for St. Louis Park Tornado: $500,000

The storm damaged two businesses and several condos.

Northeast St. Louis Park sustained roughly $500,000 to $600,000 in building damage due to Sunday’s tornado, according to city staff.

The estimate is based on building repairs that will require city permits. The number doesn’t account for any personal property inside of buildings that may have been damaged.

The tornado first touched down in St. Louis Park at around 2:15 p.m. Sunday about 3/4 of a mile south to southwest of the intersection of highways 394 and 100. Two businesses sustained moderate damage, as did several units at an area condominium complex. The storm then proceeded to the north, causing damage in Golden Valley, Minneapolis and Fridley.

North Minneapolis sustained the most serious damage, at an estimated $166 million. The storm killed two and injured a reported 48.
