The Birds Are Back in Town

Herons are still vicious predators despite their beauty.

The reported return of herons after the tornadoes wiped out their nesting location was not welcome news to my St. Louis Park Koi fish.

There was this collective bubbly moan from them when I read to them from the Star Tribune article last week. Sure, herons do have a stately grace and beauty, but herons also terrorize, maim and eat fish that live in open ponds in the city.

I saw animal rights justice in nature doing its best to re-adjust the playing field. But it was short-lived. Now I will be back to putting up fishing line heron-knee fences and hoping the re-positioned plastic heron might scare away the more timid predators.
