SLP Tourist, Traveler Visits Up—Credit New Business Group?

Discover St. Louis Park launched in 2011.

Since the founding of business booster group Discover St. Louis Park in 2011, local hotels have seen increased business, according to the Sun Sailor.

“We’re very pleased with where we’re at and the awareness we’ve been able to create for St. Louis Park,” Discover St. Louis Park's head told the newspaper.

Business at St. Louis Park's six hotels is up between 3 and 4 percent over last year. Business boosters say the increase hopefully spills over to other SLP businesses.

The group was controversial when it first started—its funding came from a tax applied to hotels.

The Sun Sailor's article did not address whether or not a steadily improving state and national economy could also have played a roll in the increase, but it noted Discover St. Louis Park has been able to connect with at least 10,000 people and 350 groups with their marketing efforts.
