Owner Says Prices Will Be Cheap at New Liquor Store in St. Louis Park

The new 10,000-square-foot Liquor Boy opens Monday, Nov. 26, in SLP's Park Place Shops.

A 10,000-foot warehouse-style liquor store will open on Monday, Nov. 26 in the Park Place Shops of St. Louis Park.

John Wolf, who also owns Chicago Lake Liquors in Minneapolis, said Liquor Boy will be just like its sister store— but on a larger scale.

The store is located at 5620 Park Place Boulevard, next to OfficeMax, near Costco and the Shops at West End. Liquor Boy will be open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

“Liquor Boy is completely different—something people have never before seen in the Twin Cities," Wolf said. "It’s three times the size of an average liquor store and will never have sales. Rather, Liquor Boy prices will be up to 40 percent cheaper every day.”

Wolf said it will be the large selection of beer, wines and spirits, such as 80 single malt Scotches varieties and 800 different wine choices.

Wolf said he has hired staff who know what they’re talking about. "But they’ll also help carry it all out to the car when they’re done," he added.

Liquor Boy will host tastings with experts to guide customers.

The store will also have a section they’re calling "Treasure Island," with deals—like special offers from distributors, closeout wines and products normally unavailable to customers.

"It’s always going to be surprising, and it’s always going to be fun," Wolf said.

Before launching his career in the retail beverage industry, Wolf was a professional sports agent in Chicago, representing clients like Jim McMahon and Deion Sanders. He returned to the Twin Cities and purchased Chicago Lake Liquors in 2000.
