Key to Awesome-ness: Frances Jimenez is new to photography, but she's already shown to be a very quick learner.

The BSM junior said she only seriously got into the art form last year. However, earlier this year, her work was recognized during a Minneapolis College of Art and Design event for young artists. And for being one of the best artists at the show, the college rewarded Jimenez with a scholarship, which will go toward a two-week art class on campus this June. There, Jimenez will get to work on her burgeoning photography skills.

"Definitely exciting," she said.

Jimenez said she likes that photography allows someone to capture moments in everyday life, especially ones that might otherwise go unnoticed. For example, she said she was recently on a trip to Georgia when she noticed a park bench with a row of shoes on it, sitting amid a busy city. Jimenez said it struck her as a very "serene" scene nestled within the hustle and bustle of urban life.

Being that she's only a junior, Jimenez said she's still not fully decided on what she'd like to do for college, though she expressed an interest in anthropology as well as possibly photography. She said a dream job would be working as a photographer for National Geographic someday.

Judging by how quickly she's picked up on photography already, there's no reason that Jimenez can't accomplish her dream.
