University Dedicates Study Area to St. Louis Park Student Who Died in Crash

Kali Mann died on Christmas Eve last year.

Kali Mann will always have a special place at Creighton University.

Mann, a 22-year-old from St. Louis Park who graduated from the university in 2010, . On Oct. 28, Creighton staff dedicated a study area in the campus library to Mann.

“Kali was a gifted, talented person who exemplified the special spirit of Creighton," said Dr. Sue Calef, director of the university's Women’s and Gender Studies program, in a written statement. "She had an utter and uncommon freedom with respect to gender, and remarkable courage and fearlessness in raising questions and being a person for others."

Mann was highly involved in women's rights issues on campus. In addition to minoring in women’s gender studies, Mann was a member of the Women’s Empowerment Base, the Gender and Sexuality Alliance and a student coordinator of the Eileen B. Lieben Center for Women on campus.

Kali's mother, Peg, said her daughter was always passionate about issues of gender equality.

“She knew who she was and what she stood for," Peg Mann said in a . "I was extremely proud to be her mother.”

Peg Mann and her husband, Roger, recently decided to donate to Creighton's Women’s and Gender Studies program.

"The gift of the Manns' will inspire future students to use everything God gave them for the betterment of the world,” Calef said.

In addition to dedicating the study area, Creighton also renamed an award given to students who positively demonstrate the ideals of gender equality in Kali Mann's honor.
