Spreading Seeds Over the Melt

The ice is fading into area marshes and lakes, as cattails begin their seasonal shedding.

Ice cover on local lakes and ponds is slowly disappearing as warm temperatures and recent rain have taken over. With the ice moving out, watch for red-wing blackbirds and waterfowl such as mallards and geese nesting among the cattails. And with temperatures expected to be in the low-50s all week, there should be plenty more melting to come.
