St. Louis Park tribute to raise money for police department's rescue equipment

On November 21, 2013, five children were trapped in a submerged car in eight feet of a near-freezing pond off of Hy.100 in St. Louis Park.  Tragically, two of the children later died.  Inspired by those children whose lives were lost, TowerLight on Wooddale Avenue Senior Living is partnering with the City of St. Louis Park Police Department to help raise money for water rescue equipment in case of similar accidents in the future.

TowerLight will host a Taco Bar fundraiser from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 30 at 3601 Wooddale Ave. South, St. Louis Park.  The cost is $5, plus a monetary donation to help raise $1,250 to equip all 10 of the St. Louis Park Police vehicles with the water rescue equipment.

“We were horrified to learn of last fall’s heartbreaking accident,” said Annie Westall, MA, TowerLight’s executive director.  TowerLight is an intergenerational community, where residents interact with the kids from TowerLight Childcare, located next door.  “Because our senior community is closely connected with children, we were terribly saddened for the family that lost so much in the accident.”

TowerLight’s seniors want the police department to know how much they are appreciated for all the work they do every day. “We hope to raise as much money as we can,” said Westall.
